So in this video I share the first 7 tips on how to save money converting a cargo trailer. These first seven tips are mostly for those who have not yet acquired their cargo trailer, as I discuss financing and upgrades ,etc. But if you already have your cargo trailer, don’t despair, there are a couple of tips in here that will help you too.

In the next video (Part 2) I will provide 7 more tips for those whose conversion is already underway! Park 2: https://youtu.be/6lBKM7A3SNA

Why am I converting a cargo trailer into a travel trailer motorcycle hauling remote workstation vehicle? Because I want to be a digital nomad… working remotely while I explore the country and see the backroads vehicle motorcycle, and motovlog the entire journey. This rig is the beginning of it all! It will allow me to work from nearly anywhere I can get a cell signal, but live in warmth and comfort as I explore all the places I’ve always wanted to see, and do it without sacrificing comfort, and do it all without spending a fortune!

I started with the cargo trailer, I am now insulating it. But here in Canada the insulation is most important to protect from the elements.

When I bought my new cargo trailer, I put on on better tires and they discovered a bent rim, plus they don’t balance them at the factory. I also discovered with the tires removed that the outside sheeting wasn’t even screwed in . Can you imagine driving in mud, snow, rain, salt that all of that crap can get right into your wall and start eating your wood let alone the mold it would cause. Also get the best silicone sealer from Lowe’s…60 a gallon and put 2 coats on the roof. Also get the best outdoor wood paint and get under your trailer and paint the wood shoving that brush deep into any tight spaces. And use clear silicone sealer to fill along where your outside skin overlaps and screws in some places theres enough for water to get in. All of this will save major problems down the road . It cost a little but you take care of your investment.

I would add that you might consider a HORSE trailer – they usually already have windows and doors in place, and are built VERY well.

Sub. We have started ours. We found a good old cargo the size we wanted, 5×10, I can stand in it husband has to bend about an inch. Weighs 950 empty, will weigh less then 1400 when done. We know weight because we own a run away. We will have small kitchen in front. a port a poddy, a on demand water heater for shower All in a cabinet and curtain on small track in frt of door ceiling Velcro to side cabinet till needed. A full bed,(sofa when not bed, two windows, one an escape window. Using original paneling. Will paint faux ship lap, ceiling is varnish sheet of wood, cabinets we are making, thin wood , and I am using paint sticks for back board in Kitchen. Mountain scene most likely. Then varnish. All under 2000. I have insulation, wood, and still some left over. Been collecting for build for yrs Cost still have new tires, grease the barring and have axle checked out because it is not a bar kind. I want to feel safe. Tires are not part of budget. The ones look good on it but Hubby says replace to be safe.

They need to start regulating the RV manufacturers, trailer makers, upfitters to national standards. The manufacturers and dealers have run ripshod for far too long.
