Great video. The way of solving the problem with the water heater – On Demand propane or natural gas water heater. Thanks for posting!

I just keep the HW heater (because it keep hot water for like 12 hours), 5 ton heat pump, and stove breakers off and I can power the entire house on a 6000/75000 generator very nicely. If we’re going to be out for a really long time I’ll drop a lot of power load from the generator, and open the HW heater breaker and it heats the HW tank no problem in about an hour then I shut it off.

I’m assuming your electric hot water heater is 240 so you don’t get killed on electricity costs and the rest of your house 120v. Are you running two chords from your generator plugged into two receptacles to accommodate the electric hot water?

Can you give us a one year follow up? That might be helpful info. Also, what is the warranty on the generator? Who does service work on it? Who makes the engine? Thanks.

    Great video.
For those wondering. I have the 6500/5500 model. My house is 2300sf and all electric. Deep well, heat pump, fridge, deep freeze etc. It can run everything in my home, just not all at the same time. I leave the stove off always. It easily runs my 2.5 ton ac (hard start Installed) but I’d never try the heat as it is clearly to much wattage for my unit. All my lights are now led. These predators are a great value. My last 4K model lasted 5 years and always started 1st pull, sold it and got the 6500 and this one has 60+ hours so far with last years outages and worked perfectly.

Great videos. I just bought the same generator and installed it identical, to your setup. I had an electrician install the interlock device and the receptacle. My house is 100% electric, including the furnace. something that I was not aware of, when I purchased the generator, but I think is very important to share with the readers, is amperage. Yes, the generator is rated at 7250/9000 watts, however, the 240v receptacle is limited to 30 amps. The amperage limits the available wattage, through the house connection, to 3300/6600 watts, depending on the voltage (110/220v). In hindsight, for that reason, I could have gotten by with a little bit smaller of a generator. The only advantage to this larger unit is being able to run additional outlets at the same time as you run the 220v 30amp outlet. I’ve read that the 220v outlet is rated for 37 peak amps. I’m not exactly sure what that means. The electrician told me that we should try to limit the draw to 80% of the amperage limit (24 amps) as much as possible. By no means do I claim to be an expert at this I am just passing on what I was told by my installer. If you look at the 220v outlet, it is in fact rated for 30 amps max. Again, great video. I’d love to chat with you, since we have very similar setups and the same predator genie. Feel free to reach out. My email is 876tony@gmaíl.com. thanks!
